Natalie King interviewed for the Pied Piper II - Oct 2010

Name of Actress: Natalie King

Role in Pied Piper II: General lowlife/assistant director. Glorified child/rat minder at times.

Age: 17

Years Acting: Since I was 'yea high'. That's the equivalent of about age 8, so 9 years. Gosh, I feel old.

Where you initially learnt your skills?: My mom and nan have been members of MOS for ages, and I joined when I was old enough, for the first pied piper. But I've always been a drama queen, allegedly.

What are the most memorable moments in your acting career to date?: Being a rat, of course. It was the beginning of a long and happy 'career'.

What made you decide to be in the Pied Piper II? I didn't really decide - it was more of a combination of blackmailing, bribery and being forced to. But the hilarious script and great cast really helped.

Give a short but complete description of your character: Sly Miss Fox - need I say more? She's the fiendishly clever sidekick to 'He Who Must Not Be Named' (not Voldemort, the other one). She does all the translating, and develops all of the plans and schemes, to further the stereotype of the cunning fox.

Who or what inspired you to work in your field? I've always been more into acting, but only more recently started directing, because of my drama teacher. (Just don't tell him that, he'll get big headed...)

He basically threw me in at the deep end, directing a weird and creepy piece for my drama coursework (If you've heard of Antonin Artaud, you'll understand...)  I realised I liked it, and have just been directing whatever projects I can since - including the recent Sci-Fi night, and all of the small rat scenes - which are hilarious by the way.

Who were your heroes when you were young? Thomas the Tank Engine and the Genie from Aladdin. I was an odd child...

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? There was this one time where I managed to.... Oh, you mean drama-related accomplishments? I know it's cheesy, but seeing something I've directed being performed always makes me feel really proud. Every week, when I see a scene coming together, I always feel really accomplished, and lucky to be working with such great people.

Even though they smell ;]

When did you know that you wanted to be an actress?: When I realised that it meant I had an excuse to meet new people, and generally have a laugh and have fun every week. I also realised that it allowed me to act stupid a lto of the time - not that I didn't before, but it's definitely a good excuse.

Funniest joke you can think of on the spot?

Q: What do you call a rat with a calculator on its head?

A: Accu-rat!

Q: What do you call a rat with pastry on its head?

A: Pie-rat!

Yeah, they're cheesy. But that's the point!
